Brand strategy is one of the most important things you can figure out in your business, your strategy may change as your business grows. If you’ve been in business for a while and you are wanting to take that next step to up-level your business then a brand strategy will be critical in you making those goals come true. A strategy isn’t just about where you’ve been or where you are now, it’s also about where you’re going.

Why your photography business needs a brand strategy

Branding is what makes people choose one company, business or product over another. Even if the products are identical and similarly priced, it’s what influences the person to pick one over the other. This is done through the branding, how it makes that person feel, what impression that gives to others. A white polo top is cheap, practical and essential, add a Nike logo to it and it’s x4 the price and suddenly now says something about that person. That brand adds to this person image and character. Branding is highly valuable and so subtle that it’s commonly overlooked.

Branding is huge for attracting and keeping customers. But you can’t just wing a successful brand, a strategy is needed to put that into place. What is the strategy? A brand strategy is basically asking all the right questions to get to the heart and soul of the business. When the strategy is solid and correct, your design is then able to take all of this information and make important decisions about your businesses design. How it will influence your business, what it will communicate, even what problems it will solve.

Creating a strategy is the first thing I do with all my clients. It is about creating a plan for the design of the project and where my clients want to be in the future. It’s about what’s at the heart of what you do and why you do it. You have to get the fundamentals right. It’s about defining your purpose and what value you add. Asking the right questions is what creates the outcome of your brand strategy. When a strategy is solid, your design will know exactly what your business needs in terms of design and how that will influence your audience in just the right way.
